Overpass - Live Review

O2 Academy Oxford

| Written by Russ F

Overpass brought their intimate album show to the O2 Academy Oxford, giving fans a chance to hear the new material from Elsewhere, Always in a stripped-back setting. With the band seated on stage and the audience standing, the performance put the focus on the songs themselves, with the new tracks receiving a warm reception from the crowd.

Opening with Union Station and Sandman, the band quickly settled into the set before introducing Is This Real?. Between songs, India Armstrong thanked the audience for coming and shared the stories behind some of the album’s tracks, including Spinning, which she described as one of the band’s favourites.

Reflecting on their European tour supporting Wunderhorse last year, Armstrong explained how the experience inspired them to write Get Up! after returning home with a renewed sense of inspiration. These personal insights added to the intimacy of the evening, giving the audience a glimpse into the experiences behind the new material.

Despite the stripped-back format, the crowd remained engaged throughout, with the band taking requests towards the end of the set. Stay Up brought a welcome change in energy before Overpass closed with fan favourite 3AM, ending the evening on a high.

The performance offered a different side to the band, allowing the new material to take centre stage while still leaving room for the familiar tracks fans know and love.
